Acts 1:1–11

He had finished the mission. After having conquered sin and death, Jesus gathered His disciples for one final moment. Then, as they watched in awe, He was taken up before their very eyes—a King returning to His heavenly throne.

The Ascension of Jesus is not just a historical event; it’s a promise. Jesus went home, and He told you He would come again. His going was not abandonment but preparation. “I go to prepare a place for you,” He said (John 14:2). In His rising, He reminds you that heaven is real, and home is waiting.

You may have heard the haunting melody of the hymn “Going Home,” often played at military funerals—simple, solemn, and filled with longing.

“Going home, going home, I’m just going home.

It’s not far, just close by, through an open door…”

These words stir something deep inside—the sense that this world is not your final destination. Like a soldier returning after battle, you long for peace, for rest, for home.

Jesus’ ascension is your assurance that heaven isn’t just a hope—it’s a reality. He didn’t vanish; He rose to reign. And He left you with purpose and power through the Holy Spirit. Until the day He returns, you are called to be His witness, sharing the good news that the door to home is open for all who believe.

So when grief weighs heavy or the journey feels long, remember this: Jesus has gone before you. The path is clear. The place is ready. And when your time comes, you too will be going home.

Reflection:  Who in your life needs to hear that “home” is real and that Jesus has made a way for them? What can you do this week to share that hope?

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, thank You for going before me, for preparing a place, and for sending Your Spirit to walk with me now. Help me to live with heaven in my heart and purpose in my steps. Give me boldness to share the hope of home with someone who needs it. Amen.
