John 14:23-29; Acts 16:9–15

Have you ever heard someone say, “You had one job!”—usually after something went hilariously wrong? A check without a date, a math error, a misspelled word in a newsletter. The idea is: the task was simple, but you still messed it up.

In John 14, Jesus gives us what might seem like a simple job: “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.” That’s it. Love Jesus and let that love shape how you live. It’s not about doing a million religious tasks or having it all figured out, it’s about trusting Him and following His lead, every day.

Think about Paul in Acts 16. He had plans, but God had other ones. Paul saw a vision — a man from Macedonia asking for help. So, Paul went. No arguing. No delay. Just obedience. And because of that, he met Lydia. She was already searching for truth, and Paul was just the person God used to connect the dots for her. Her whole household came to believe because one man said “yes.”

Sometimes we wait for the perfect moment, the perfect clarity — or we overthink everything. But Paul didn’t have a plan. He just followed God’s lead. That’s what obedience looks like: not having all the answers but being willing to take the next step.

We really do have just one job — to love God enough to obey and let Him handle the results. We just need to take the next step. That’s our one job: listen for God’s leading and say yes.

Reflection:  What’s one thing God’s been nudging you to do? A conversation, a decision, a step of faith? What’s stopping you?

Prayer:  God, help me stop delaying and overthinking things. Give me the courage to trust You, even when I don’t see the whole picture. Let my “yes” open doors for others and do more than I can imagine. Amen.
